Dr. Charlotte Rodricks

I would like to apply for the role of Operations Manager or Junior Assistant Manager.

I have one year of experience managing and overseeing operations at a broiler poultry farm of up to 1,500 birds. I completed my B.V.Sc & A.H. at the prestigious Bombay Veterinary College in India, followed by M.V.Sc and PhD degrees in Animal Genetics and Breeding. During my time at the farm, I designed and carried out my own research, which has been submitted to multiple journals and is currently under review.

I am up to date with the yellow fever vaccine, as I spent time in Africa two months ago. While I do not currently hold an international driver’s licence, I am able to apply for one should I be selected.

Role Nonceba

I’m excited to apply for the Poultry Meat Examiner position at SA poultry. With 3 years of general work experience, 1 year working directly as a Meat Examiner, and 6 months of practical training in meat inspection, I’m ready to help uphold SA poultry’s standards for food safety and quality.

During my 6 months of practicals and 1 year as a Meat Examiner, I gained hands-on experience inspecting poultry carcasses for defects, contamination, and pathology. I’m trained in trimming procedures, identifying conditions that require condemnation, and following strict hygiene + HACCP protocols. I also kept accurate records of inspection findings at the start and end of each shift, as required for traceability and compliance.

My 3 years in general work roles built the discipline and stamina this job needs — standing long shifts, maintaining focus on fast lines, and working as part of a team. I’m reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and I understand that accuracy in inspection directly protects consumers and the SApoultry brand.

I’d value the opportunity to contribute to SApoultry’s commitment to producing safe, high-quality poultry products. I’m available for shifts, including early mornings, and can start immediately.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to speaking with you.

Lethabo Sekgobela

My name is Lethabo Sekgobela, and I hold a Master’s degree in Agriculture (Animal Production). My professional work involves technical support, capacity building, and training of smallholder farmers, with a focus on improving livestock productivity and sustainability.

I am currently seeking to pursue PhD studies and would appreciate guidance in refining a research topic within the field of poultry science, specifically aligned to sustainable and climate-resilient production systems.

My preliminary research interest is centred on indigenous broiler production systems, with particular emphasis on the Bosvelder chicken as a dual-purpose or slow-growing genotype suitable for smallholder conditions. I am interested in investigating how these systems can be optimised to enhance rural livelihoods under resource-constrained environments.

More specifically, I aim to explore the following research components:

  • Nutritional evaluation of alternative, locally available feed resources (e.g., Bambara groundnut, Tela maize, and other drought-tolerant crops) as partial or full replacements for conventional feed ingredients
  • Growth performance, carcass characteristics, and feed conversion efficiency of indigenous broiler breeds under different feeding regimes
  • Adaptation and resilience of indigenous poultry to low-input and climate-stressed production environments
  • Socio-economic impact assessment, focusing on the contribution of indigenous poultry systems to household food security, income generation, and risk reduction among smallholder farmers

The overarching aim is to develop an integrated, low-input poultry production model that leverages indigenous genetic resources and climate-smart feed strategies to improve the livelihoods of rural and low-income households.

I would greatly appreciate SACNASP’s assistance in:

  • Connecting me with researchers, supervisors, or institutions currently active in poultry science, animal nutrition, or sustainable agricultural systems
  • Providing guidance on aligning this research focus with national priorities and current scientific gaps
  • Advising on potential academic or research platforms where such work is being undertaken

Thank you for your time and consideration. I would value any direction or support you can provide.
