Introduction of a subsidy model
SAPA has taken a decision to introduce a subsidy rebate model for 2012. This initiative is being implemented in an effort to encourage course participation and to assist with ever increasing costs.
A criterion has been set for the subsidy rebate and the following will be applicable.
The main focus criterion of the subsidy rebate is that of successful completion of all class assessments and the compulsory assignment. This talks to the selection criteria of candidates being registered on the courses. It is in your interest to select candidates who will be able to cope with intensive training interventions. Although no specific entrance qualification is required to attend these courses, consideration should be given to the fact that the candidates should have experience in the poultry industry; should have achieved a minimum of grade 11 at school; and be literate in English (able to speak and write).
In addition to this consideration should be given to the fact that the courses are run over a three day period and the interventions are intensive as a lot of information is disseminated during the courses and there is the expectation that candidates work in the evenings in terms of preparation and lecturer requirements.
Learners (delegates) that are found to be competent after the course will be awarded a certificate issued by the KwaZulu-Natal Poultry Institute and will qualify for the rebate.
The KZNPI is registered with AgriSETA as an accredited training provider. The course material is aligned with the SAQA unit standards and has been verified by AgriSETA. The huge benefit to the poultry industry is that organisations that have registered a workplace skills plan (WSP) with the AgriSETA are able to claim back 40% of the levies paid over to SARS. For details see www.agriseta.co.za under Skills Planning menu.
