Laying Area Farm Manager – Sovereign Foods

Sovereign Foods, a national supplier of top quality chicken products to the SA market via various brands, is seeking to employ a Laying Area Farm Manager for its operations in the Eastern Cape.

The successful incumbent will oversee the management of a number of farms within the Laying department and be responsible for meeting the set Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) associated within the breeder operation. Additionally, Sovereign’s on-going drive to improve Quality, Health and Safety as well as maintaining excellent bird health status through strict enforcement of Works Instructions, will be required. Excellent Cost controlling abilities is a must for this position.

Sovereign Foods is looking for a thorough and committed individual who is willing to work to operational requirements, including public holidays and/or weekend duties. Excellent knowledge of all aspects related to animal husbandry and stockman-ship must be applied to achieve sustainable industry leading results.

A degree in Animal Production Management (or equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years parent stock and laying birds management is essential. Good computer literacy with experience and confidence in environmentally controlled chicken houses are deemed a necessity to be effective in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the achievement of Laying KPI’s on the facilities:
    • Total hen loss to be within breed standard
    • Bodyweights to be within the specification of breed standard
    • Costs not to exceed budget
    • Hatch percentage optimized to breed standard
    • Chicks per hen housed meeting the breed standard
  • Ensure that all houses and assets are kept in perfect operating condition throughout the cycle
  • Rigid SOP adherence on a daily basis – in all operational aspects
  • Ability to oversee and guide the maintenance effort on the farm
  • Contribute to ensuring the safe working conditions of employees on sites
  • Submit reports, planning schedules and data analysis reports as required
  • Manage subordinates through providing working resources and effective performance management and related processes.

Marketing Manager, Pig & Poultry Products

MAJOR FUNCTIONS


The Marketing Manager, Pig & Poultry Products will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of a marketing strategy for the Pig & Poultry Product portfolio to achieve or exceed the agreed sales objectives within the limits of the allocated budgets. The incumbent will also provide and coordinate marketing and commercial assistance to the sales and marketing efforts of the Pig & Poultry Sales Team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Overall supervision of product sales and marketing activities for all products within the Pig & Poultry portfolio.
    • Manage and monitor logistical planning of key Pig & Poultry products.
    • Assist with the registration of new products and coordinate new product launches.
    • Attend regional- and national sales conferences and provide training to staff and clients on company products as part of ongoing continuing education policy.
    • Expand market share of portfolio products.
    • Briefing and liaising with advertising companies.
    • Assist in planning and executing product launches, sales conferences and assist with exhibitions, etc.
    • Assisting in the co-ordination of promotional campaigns.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BSc, marketing or similar degree.
  • Minimum three year’s experience in the veterinary pharmaceutical field.
  • Minimum one year’s experience in product management.
  • Minimum one year’s sales experience in the veterinary field.

The responsibilities

  • Oversee farm and factory operations
  • Ensure quality standards are met in the processing plant
  • Oversee market studies and come up with innovative ways of satisfying customers.
  • Oversee all sales and marketing strategies and campaigns
  • Project management

The Person

  • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • A degree/higher diploma in Agriculture/Aquaculture/Business Management/Finance/Marketing Management from a reputable university/college.
  • Business management experience.
  • A good financial understanding including financial reporting.
  • Sales and distribution experience.
  • Poultry/aquaculture/agriculture/cold chain experience is desirable.
  • Fluency in Portuguese will be an added advantage.
  • Basic package is up to USD10 000 per month gross, a company vehicle plus uncapped business fuel, accommodation, medical aid. Other frills are negotiable.
