The South African Egg Industry, under the guidance of Masanda Peter, Brand Manager of the Southern African Poultry Association is searching for the country's most promising student food writers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. We encourage all students with an interest in food journalism to enter our competition. Create three egg recipes, prepare and photograph one dish and you could win a trip to the Galliova Awards, a one week internship at a leading national magazine (see over leaf) and your very own fi rst kitchen appliance from Kenwood! The Galliova Food Writers' Awards have been around for 22 years and is the largest and most prestigious food journalism award ceremony in South Africa.

TO ENTER:

• Create three recipes using eggs as the main ingredient.
• All entries must include at least one or more pictures of your prepared dishes.
• The closing date for all entries is Friday, 7 September 2012.
• This competition is open to people aged 18 - 35 years.
• Telephonic interviews will be held during September 2012.
• The judges' decision is fi nal and no correspondence will be entered into.

PRIZES

 

5 candidates will each have the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship at a national food publication for a week. All costs will be paid for and the candidates will each receive a small stipend for their 1 week apprenticeship. This opportunity for work experience will give each candidate an idea of the everyday functioning of a magazine and the requirements of a career in food journalism. On top of this, the candidates will be guests of honour at the prestigious Galliova Awards on the 19th October 2012 and each will go home with a fabulous Kenwood appliance. (All travel costs to the Galliova Awards included.)
