Galliova Awards
At the Generic Egg Advertising Committee of 18 June 2009 it was decided to continue with the current funding model for the Galliova Awards for this year only. With effect from 2010 and after the implementation of the statutory levy a new funding model will be required. We are mindful of the fact that the economic conditions for most South Africans are difficult and so have managed to keep the 2009 costs the same as those for 2008. This means that buying a seat to attend the award ceremony on 9 October 2009 at the Tokara Estate in the Western Cape will cost participants only R16 200 plus VAT each. There are 24 seats available and they will be allocated on the first come first served basis. For those of you who are not familiar with the Galliova Awards – this competition has been running for 20 years and is designed to reward food writers and, more recently, health writers, in South Africa for the work that they do in promoting the joys of food preparation and eating. Although one of the awards is specifically for articles on eggs, the main award is for food and health writing of any type. We gain an inestimable amount of positive and free publicity with these journalists through this competition as all of the journalists are provided with regular food and egg related information by the award organisers. This is the only such award available for food writers and we are therefore fortunate to be associated with this programme. We hope to encourage more egg producers to participate in the award and all who so do will be publicly acknow-ledged with the journalists concerned in order to achieve some below-the-line advertising payback. From measure-ments we have started to take, we believe, that the egg industry gets millions of Rands worth of exposure as a con-sequence of these awards. The first of these analyses will soon be posted on the intranet for members to view. For 2010 the basic cost of running the competition will be covered from the statutory levy. We will therefore reduce the participation fee at the luncheon to R4000 per person plus VAT. We will also allocate seats to contributors on the basis of their relative contributions to the fund, and should any producer allocate a seat not take it up, it will be sold onto other interested parties. Please contact Hendrien from this office for the seat bookings. |
